Division Two Match Report Week 20

E-mail Print PDF
This week saw the final two matches of the season for division two. The first was Meopham F against Culverstone B with Joanna Lam, Ling Ling Guo and Christine Stacey playing for Meopham F and Dan Fraser, Helene Spence and Julie Roper for Culverstone B. Joanna continued to show her good form by winning all three of her matches without losing a game. Dan had a tough evening with a very close five set match against Ling Ling, with Ling Ling prevailing in the fifth. Ling Ling also won her other two matches in straight sets. Chris also had a tough night with Julie taking her to five and Helene taking her to four games, but it was only Dan who came through the victor over Chris. Meopham also won the doubles, making the final score 9-1 to Meopham F.

The other match was Meopham H against Meopham G, with Arie Van Der Leer, Chris Brett and Kayleigh Miles playing for Meopham H while Meopham G could only play two - Liu Yun Guo and Zhong Jiao Tan. Arie came through winning both of his matches, despite Tan taking him to four games. Tan's two other matches against Chris and Kayleigh were very close, but both saw Tan the victor. Both Chris and Kayleigh triumphed over Guo and with Meopham H taking the doubles, the final score was 8-2 to Meopham H.

Meopham A Take Title

E-mail Print PDF
Meopham A crowned an excellent season with a 9-1 win at Dartfordians B which was sufficient to seal the Premier Tiltle. This is the first title for Meopham and follows a very consistent season with all 8 players used registering some fine wins. Last years winners (and for many years before) Dartfordians A are now fighting for the runners up slot with GRFC A and both have 2 matches to play after this week.
The tilte was won despite Darfordians B fielding a strong side with Ted Tydeman, Jill Shipton and Mick Sheppard. MIck again proved difficult for Brian Lees who last time lost to Mick, This time the match went to 5 and Brian stuttered over the finish line 11-8.Meopham are beginning to get used to Brian's 5 game thrillers but they are never easy to watch! Mark Heaton and Brian Lees went on to win 3 but the best match of the night was Tydeman against McAulay which saw some great tactical play from Ted in particular, noticeably changing his game plan after the first game. Dave became more and more annoyed with himself and stopped his normal hitting game which very much fell into Ted's plan with Ted finally winning 11-6 in the 5th game.
Dartfordians A are making this difficult for themselves only turning yu with 3 players at Sutton who fielded a strong side themselves. The result was a 6-4 win for Sutton which proves what I have said to Adrian Foster before that they could mount a serious title challenge themselves if they could consistently get theit strongest team out. Maybe next year? Peter Davies who has had yet another good season in the main won all 3 but Peter Rushbrook lost to both Jason Russell and Adrian Foster who also combined to win the match with a very tight 12-10 victory in the doubles in the 5th.
That result combined with GRFC A 9-1 win against Traders has certainly made it tighter for second place although it is a big ask for GRFC A who still have Meopham A to play. Clive Pattison was the only successful player for Traders beating Martin Winter.
Meopham B beat Meopham C 8-2 with Tom Tobin and Chris Pening both winning 3 each and Peter Worthington 1. Dick Ellis and Emma Tovey both won 1 each. Chris has had a useful finish to the season which bodes well for next year.
Congragulations again to Meopham A  for a well deserved tilte (I would say that of course but who cares!).
